St. Patrick's Day and Lá Glas Events
We celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge in March every year with a two-week programme of exciting and fun events to highlight our language, culture and heritage. These events include:
- Whole-School Assembly where our culture, heritage and language is highlighted and celebrated
- Song/Poetry- all classes learn songs and poems in Irish and perform them in front of the whole school
- Dances- classes explore the Dance strand unit of the PE curriculum and learn Irish dances such as Ballaí Luimnigh, Staicín Orna, Shoe the Donkey, Brush Dance etc
- Gaeilge: All classes encouraged to use their frásaí gaeilge (Irish language greetings and phrases) in their everyday lives
- History lessons where pupils learn the story of St. Patrick in the context of the early christian period in Ireland
- Art activities
- Dress-up day and parade around Cartron for the whole school community, including parents, families, neighbours and friends
- Tráth na gCeist table quiz for 3rd-6th classes
- Gaeilgeoir of the Day/Week prizes in classes
- Irish Breakfast Coffee/Tea Morning for parents
