Sport in our school

Here in St. Brendans we place great emphasis on the physical and social development of our pupils.  A healthy diet and good exercise habits enhance a child’s chance of realising this development to its maximum. Through sport children learn many important life skills which help them live full and rounded lives. Therefore, we provide every opportunity to participate in and try many  sports and activities.

We engage in many activities and enter a wide range of competitions. Our emphasis is on providing the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of sports for all our children, regardless of ability. We love to see the pupils develop and attain a high degree of proficiency in sports of their choosing but we see participation as paramount.

We are active in Gaelic games, soccer, rugby, basketball, athletics, swimming, orienteering, racquet sports and co-operative games. Whether pupils choose individual disciplines or team games everyone is catered for.

We have a long and healthy association with the major sporting bodies in our town and benefit greatly from high class coaching provided by Sligo GAA, Cumann na mBunscol . Sligo Rovers, Sligo Rugby Club, Calry A.C. and Sligo Sports Partnership.

Our school has the added advantage of being in close proximity to Sligo I.T. who run numerous sports courses in their college. Not only do we use their high quality facilities but also benefit from free swimming lessons and expert coaching in other codes.

All in all sport is an integral part of school life in St. Brendans from which every pupil can benefit and enjoy.
