Every summer we run a summer programme in July in St. Brendan's NS. The summer camp is designed to encourage a positive relationship between the child and school, boosting overall interest and participation in education throughout the year. The criteria for invitation are varied each year; but all acknowledge that it is worth getting up early for those extra few weeks as the activities are active, engaging and fun.

Summer Camp 2024

This camp will be run in the school for three weeks from 1st-19th July from 9.20 am to 3.00 pm each day.The camp is for children in mainstream classes with complex needs and those at risk of educational disadvantage. This includes pupils with additional learning needs, SNA support or other difficulties eg english as a second language, economic risks, cultural differences that make learning and socialising at school more challenging for some. The camp is designed to help children to develop the self-confidence, greater friendships, stronger resilience and personal learning skills that will help them when they return to school again in September. Each week of the camp has a theme and will include fun but challenging activities including sports, art and crafts, cookery, reading, music, science etc. Each week there will be at least one bus trip to local places of activity and interest.

This years’ themes are:

Week 1: Bear Grylls Week – exploring personal safety and survival skills
Week 2: Young Einsteins Week- hands-on STEAM activities (science, technology, engineering, art and maths)
Week 3: Greta Thunberg Week – learning about sustainable living skills- food, growing, farming-and how to look after our planet
