This year St. Brendan’s NS signed-up for the DabbleDoo Online Music Programme. These lessons take place on a whole-class basis, using our interactive whiteboards. The lessons are designed by professional musicians who are trained and experienced in classroom tuition.A number of teachers were trained in the use of the programme and have been instrumental in building up staff expertise in this area.

We have a bank of percussion instruments that are great fun to use while learning about rhythm and reading music. The school also has a number of guitars and keyboards that are used by staff members and pupils to accompany our school choir from time-to-time. The Tin Whistle is learned in first/second classes. Sligo Baroque Orchestra rehearse weekly in St. Brendan's and have generously brought their musical expertise and skills to introduce a wide-variety of orchestral instruments to our pupils through informal concerts.

The pupils in An Cuan also receive music lessons from Music Generation weekly, with a special emphasis on rhythm and movement to music.

Alongside this, we have a school choir who perform at masses, sacraments, carol singing and other events throughout the year. Solo singers have been coached at school and entered the local Feis.

One of our biggest achievements has been our school musicals which take place on an almost annual basis. Pupils in the school have performed memorable shows such as Aladdin, Grease, Sound of Music, Bugsy Malone, Oliver, Hairspray etc. These have required many long hours of rehearsal outside school time and we are delighted that we have such a talented and dedicated staff who willingly gives up their time to put on these exciting performances.
