Exploring Area and Weight in 5th class
5th class are enjoying their weekly station teaching activities and have recently focused on exploring the topics of area and weight.
The children completed an open ended task which involved estimating how many counters would cover the outline of their hand. They then had to do a real count. They also used squared paper to design name art posters.
For our weight stations, the children enjoyed experimenting with bathrooom scales, kitchen scales and digital scales. They had to measure different quantities of rice and pasta and then calculated the total weight of a shopping bag of vegetables. They put their knowledge of converting grams to kilograms to good use.
The children even manged to persuade the teachers to hop on the bathroom scales too!
